Welcome to Humanities!  This year promises to be new and exciting as you will be learning about events and people in early American history through some of the historical fiction novels we will be reading in English.  The genres will not, however, end there.  You will independently read a variety of books - for fun! Exploring the worlds of  science fiction and fantasy will, hopefully, encourage you to readily try a variety of genres throughout the year.  Through the exchange of book recommendations among your peers, you will discover others who share your taste in literature. You will be amazed how many new friends you will make simply by having similar literary interests!

Reading will invariably influence your writing.  You may encounter a particular author whom you may wish to model.  Perhaps it is the humor,   imaginative settings, or the clever, descriptive sentence structure that he or she uses.  Continuous reading will naturally support your writing development, so keep those "on deck" books handy!

You will begin to discover more about yourself as your read and interact with the historical events of early America.  Meeting prominent historical figures, experiencing the culture of the times, (overshadowed by the hardships of the establishment of a brand new government),
